Sebastian Driussi “hurt” by St. Louis defeat, understands fans’ frustration

At Austin FC’s weekly media availability session on Thursday morning, it was club captain Sebastian Driussi’s opportunity to speak with media about the latest goings on with the team.

The Argentine had not spoken with reporters after the team’s last three matches, all defeats, so it was noteworthy that the skipper stepped forward to the microphones ahead of this weekend’s date with FC Dallas.

Simply put, conceding 12 goals in the last three games, including a six-spot on Sunday in St. Louis, is something Driussi had never experienced until now.

“It was a defeat that personally hurt me a lot. I’ve never suffered a ‘goleada’ like that in my career, so it was very hard,” said Driussi.

“But we must continue in these next games to try to reach our objective, which is to enter the playoffs and quickly turn the page and focus on what’s next,” added Driussi.

In particular, Austin FC’s unhealthy knack of conceding goals of late is the main concern for the former River Plate man.

“We’re aware that we just can’t concede so many goals, but the coach and his assistants are reviewing that, to see what the errors are and to correct the shortcomings that we have been having in the last few games.

“We’re aware that we can’t concede the number of goals that we’ve given up in the last three games and we know that we have to continue working, which is the only way to reduce those goals,” said Driussi.

Throughout the four-plus minutes that Driussi spoke, he continuously pointed to the team being committed to correcting the team’s errors, while staying together as a unit to move forward and fulfill the primary objective of reaching the playoffs.

It is no secret that on social media of late fans have expressed their anger and frustration at the team’s performance. The 27-year-old said could sympathize with those sentiments, but stressed the best way to move forward was to get results and reach the postseason.

“It’s normal [the angry reaction of the fans], it’s football. I think the majority of the fans are upset with the latest results, but we have to keep going. There are 10 games to go. We know what our objective is so we have to continue on that way,” concluded Driussi
